EMERALD WEST MALLOW

RAWANG

URBANITE'S LOFTY LODGE

Emerald West show unit is designed as a living lodge that expresses subtle simplicity between aesthetic and functionality. The overall earthy tone touched with a play of accent tend to break the dullness, while some of the design languages spoken such as lines, geometry and patterns helps in accentuating the visual connectivity and statement. Though all the rooms have a similar earthy tones, each room is assigned with a distinct characteristics that is spoken through design elements. These elements of lines are aligned in different directions; vertical, horizontal as well as diagonal forming a statement-bedhead and wardrobe in each bedroom. The language of geometry and form is also carried through the deco, such that circles are continued from cabinet door design, lightings and even the decoration chosen. Apart from visual elements, the spatial planning challenges functionality within a small space, which can be seen from the feature cabinet along the stairs and the dry kitchen island. Instead of having a typical hand rail, we took the opportunity to explore a functional full height cabinet that has some of its parts left as void, creating a visual permeability between the stairs and living area. As the dry kitchen is small in area, instead of omitting the idea of island, we incorporated the island in the dry kitchen to attach with the stairway feature cabinet which serves the purpose of space saving while fulfilling the need of a kitchen island. The overall scheme speaks to challenge design possibilities: to create strong characteristics with the play of simplest design elements (lines, geometry, and pattern); to fulfil functionality along with spatial utilization.
